چکیده

ABSTRACT We report on the discovery of two potential polar ring galaxies (PRGs) in WALLABY Pilot Data Release 1 (PDR1). These untargeted detections, cross-matched to NGC 4632 and 6156, are some first where H i observations show distinct components. used iDaVIE virtual reality software separate anomalous gas from galactic found that comprises ∼50 per cent total content both systems. have generated plausible 3D kinematic models for each galaxy, assuming rings circular inclined at 90° galaxy bodies. data consistent with PRGs but do not definitively prove PRGs. By projecting these different combinations main disc inclinations, orientations, angular resolutions mock cubes, we further investigated detectability similar WALLABY. Assuming indeed PRGs, fraction, combined size distribution PDR1 galaxies, implies an incidence rate ∼1–3 cent. If this holds true, survey will detect hundreds new galaxies.

Photometric Survey of the Polar Ring Galaxy Ngc 6822

We have previously established, from a carbon star survey, that the Local Group dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 6822 is much larger than its central bright core.

The star - burst galaxies NGC 278 , NGC 660 , NGC 3628 , NGC 4631 , and NGC 4666

Aims. We study the physical properties and mass of molecular gas in the central regions of galaxies with active nuclei. GHz [CI] maps in three of these are used to model the molecular gas. Results. All five objects contain bright CO emission in the central regions. Clear central concentrations were found in NGC 660, NGC 3628, and NGC 4666, but not in the weakest CO emitters NGC 278 and NGC 4631...

A Local Group Polar Ring Galaxy : NGC 6822

Star counts, obtained from a 2 × 2 degree area centered on NGC 6822 have revealed an optical image of this galaxy composed of two components: in addition to the well-known HI disk with its young stellar component, there is a spheroidal stellar structure as extensive as its HI disk but with its major axis at roughly right angles to it which we traced to at least 9 scale lengths. Radial velocitie...

Radio spectral index images of the spiral galaxies NGC 0628 , NGC 3627 , and NGC 7331

Aims. In order to understand the cosmic ray propagation mechanism in galaxies, and its correlation with the sites of star formation, we compare the spatially resolved radio spectral index of three spiral galaxies with their IR distribution. Methods. We present new low-frequency radio continuum observations of the galaxies NGC 0628, NGC 3627, and NGC 7331, taken at 327 MHz with the Very Large Ar...

Near – infrared line imaging of the starburst galaxies NGC 520 , NGC 1614 and NGC 7714

We present high spatial resolution (∼0. 6) near–infrared broad–band JHK images and Brγ 2.1661 μm and H2 1–0 S(1) 2.122 μm emission line images of the nuclear regions in the interacting starburst galaxies NGC 520, NGC 1614 and NGC 7714. The near–infrared emission line and radio morphologies are in general agreement, although there are differences in details. In NGC 1614, we detect a nuclear doub...
